Dear Parents,
I am writing in hopes of receiving your support to help Sra. Hurtado and I create a book nook in each of our classrooms. I was nominated by Mrs. Mazeau for an award, was chosen, and was presented with a $500 gift card for Lakeshore Teacher Supply store on Friday by the Altrusa Foundation of Chula Vista, which is a philanthropic group that supports teachers and encourages a love for literacy in our community. I split the reward with Sra. Hurtado in order for us to get a jump-start on our book nooks. We purchased book cubbies and labels to divide the books we currently have by Lexile, we purchased reading/comprehension activities for students to work on during literacy centers, and we purchased incentives to use to motivate students to keep reading and achieving. In order to make this all come together, we were hoping you could help us by getting a jump-start on Spring cleaning and send in any children’s books that you no longer want, dining chair cushions, sofa accent pillows, chairs, lamps, bean bag chairs, or any other items you may think would be useful in a classroom book nook. Students could use these items during our silent independent reading, or when they work on Achieve 3000 and spread out around the classroom and read on the floor. We thank you for your continued support all year and hope that in reaching out to you, we could make our vision come together for our classrooms. Below is just one idea I found on Pinterest. If any of you has a good eye for interior decor, you are welcome to come in and help as well. Thank you, all! -Sra. Josa
